ENGUERA PICUAL OLIVE OIL: MEDITERRANEAN STRENGTH WITH AN INLAND CHARACTER
Extra virgin olive oil of the Picual variety grown in Enguera is the result of a privileged environment. Here, the robustness of the Picual variety meets the distinctive character of Valencian soil, producing an oil with unrivalled stability and a flavour profile full of nuances.
THE TERROIR OF ENGUERA: CLIMATE AND SOIL
What makes our Picual special is the place where it grows. Enguera offers critical conditions that stress the olive tree in a positive way:
- CONTRASTING CLIMATE: Located in a transitional area, Enguera enjoys cool winters and warm summers, with Mediterranean influence softening extreme temperatures. This thermal contrast favours the slow, progressive ripening of the fruit.
- ALTITUDE AND OROGRAPHY: Olive groves on elevated and often terraced land allow perfect aeration of the trees, reducing excess moisture and concentrating aromas in the olive.
- DRYLANDS WITH CHARACTER: The natural resilience of Picual is enhanced in the soils of Enguera, producing fruit with lower water content and a higher density of polyphenols.
PICUAL VARIETY
This variety is the most widespread thanks to its great adaptability and exceptional stability against oxidation.
- THE TREE: It shows great vigour, with a strong, dense canopy that offers excellent resistance to variable climatic conditions.
- THE LEAF: It is medium-sized, lanceolate in shape and has a characteristic dark green colour, allowing efficient photosynthesis even during the warm summers of the area.
- THE FRUIT: It takes its name from its elliptical shape, ending in a small point or tip. It has a high oil content and, thanks to Enguera’s climate, ripens slowly and gradually.
SENSORY PROFILE (TASTING)
Enguera Picual retains its strength, while offering the fruity elegance typical of the area:
- ON THE NOSE: Intense notes of fresh grass, stem, and a very pronounced presence of tomato plant and artichoke.
- ON THE PALATE: It is a full-bodied oil. Its bitterness and pungency are vibrant yet balanced, leaving a clean, slightly almondy aftertaste.

USES IN LOCAL GASTRONOMY
This oil is the perfect companion for the cuisine of our land:
- SPOON DISHES: Its power enhances the flavours of traditional stews from La Canal.
- HIGH-QUALITY FRYING: Thanks to its extremely high stability, due to the dry climate that concentrates the oleic acid, it is the oil that best withstands heat in the pan.
- RAW FINISHING OIL: Essential drizzled over good village bread or for dressing game meats.
A NATURAL SHIELD FOR YOUR HEALTH
Thanks to the growing conditions in Enguera, our Picual contains exceptionally high levels of:
- VITAMIN E AND POLYPHENOLS: Natural antioxidants that help combat cellular ageing.
- OLEIC ACID: An essential ally for cardiovascular health, present at levels above 75–80% in this variety.
